A Simple Men’s Skincare Routine for Clear Skin

A Simple Men’s Skincare Routine for Clear Skin

It’s no secret that not all men know how to protect and maintain their skin. Skincare for men has been taboo for too long and that ends here and now. The purpose of this blog is to create a safe space for men to learn about looking after their skin and ageing with grace.

Here’s a simple men’s skincare routine to try out:

Step 1: Use a gentle cleanser

Cleansing is important to get rid of unnecessary dirt and to keep your skin clean. It is essential to wash your face in the morning and afternoon, and especially after working out or being in a dusty environment. Find a cleanser that is gentle on your skin and won’t burn or damage your skin. It’s advisable to look for soothing ingredients such as aloe vera or chamomile.

Step 2: Exfoliate your skin

Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells, leaving you feeling rejuvenated. Make sure you don’t exfoliate daily, as this will lead to highly sensitive skin. The goal is to enhance your skin, not to completely ruin it. Exfoliating should be done once or twice a week, but start off by exfoliating once a week to test the waters.

Step 3: Use a good toner

Contrary to popular belief, investing in a toner is always worth it. It has hydrating properties and balances the pH levels of your skin. It is advisable to tone your skin twice a day, after cleansing. Toners help to shrink pores, preparing the skin for moisturisation.

Step 4: Apply a serum

Serums help to cater to a specific need that your skin might have. For example, hyaluronic acid increases the moisture in your skin and reduces fine lines and wrinkles. THE DREAM, right? It is definitely a safe option to see a dermatologist or cosmetologist to guide you on the active ingredients that you might need for specific skin issues like acne or eczema

Active ingredients to look out for in your serums include:

  • Retinol
  • Vitamin B3
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin E
  • Niacinamide
  • Salicylic Acid
  • Argan Oil
  • Vitamin B3
  • Green Tea
  • Algae Extracts

Bear in mind that there are plenty of other replenishing ingredients that might be of interest to you. It’s also advisable to look into ceramides – fatty lipids which restore your skin’s moisture and prevent germs.

Step 5: Moisturise! Moisturise! Moisturise!

A moisturiser is always important in your skincare routine. If anything, you should moisturise twice a day after completing the rest of your routine. Some people opt for a lighter moisturiser for the morning and something heavier in the evening. That is optional, of course. You can also just use one good face moisturiser that your skin easily absorbs.

Remember that your skin type right now is probably nowhere near what it was as a young boy. In fact, your skin’s needs can change from season to season. The best way to stay on top of this is to stick to a set routine and adapt it when necessary. Not everyone needs to implement all 5 of these steps in the same way. Do what feels right for you.
